Often, cancer patients in Mauritius need to travel abroad spending a lot of money on air ticket and hotel stay. Now PET CT is in Mauritius for the detection of cancer.

- Clinical Oncologist: Deliver systemic treatments, such as chemotherapy, hormone therapy and radioisotopes and administer radiotherapy to treat patients with both curative and palliative aims.
- Medical Oncologist: Provide the same treatments as a clinical oncologist, but do not administer radiotherapy.
- Surgical Oncologist: Specialise in the surgical management of cancers. Oncologists may also have a specialist interest and expertise in the management of particular types of cancer, e.g. gastrointestinal tract cancers or urological cancers.
- Gynaecological oncologist: Focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of cancers of the female reproductive system, including ovary, endometrium, uterus, cervix, vagina, vulva and trophoblastic disease.
- Haemato Oncologist Diagnose and treat cancers of the blood and lymphatic system. These include myeloma, lymphomas, Hodgkin’s disease, chronic lymphatic leukaemia, and acute and chronic leukaemia.
- Histopathologist Identify which type of cancer a patient has and at the stage of disease progression, by microscopic study of body tissues and cells obtained by surgeons through biopsy procedures.
- Paediatric oncologist: Concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer in children.
- Palliative care specialist: Provides care for patients whose illness cannot be cured. This includes management of pain and other symptoms and provision of psychological, social and spiritual support. The goal of palliative care is achievement of the best quality of life for patients and their families, from diagnosis, through treatment, to cure, continuing illness or death and into bereavement. Many aspects of palliative care are also applicable earlier in the course of the illness in conjunction with other treatments.
- Radiation oncologist: Specialises in the study and application of imaging technologies, such ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) Computed Axial Tomography, nuclear medicine, Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)) to diagnose or treat cancers.
- Medical physicists The radiotherapy facilities in the Oncology Centre will be supervised by Medical physicists, who also assist in giving some forms of radiotherapy.
- Medical Oncologist - Department of medical oncology, chemotherapy and bone-marrow transplant has been developed under the guidance of Dr Divyanshu Dua. Dr Divyanshu Dua: Dr Dua has a special interest in geriatric oncology and run a multi-disciplinary clinic in conjugation with geriatrician and followed the medical oncology advanced training curriculum as per Royal Australasian College of physicians. - Surgical Oncologist - Department of surgical oncology has been made under the guidance of Dr Alok Ranjan SinhaDr Alok Ranjan Sinha is the Senior Professor Consultant GI Surgery at Metro Hospital, Delhi, India and has an MBBS & General Surgery from AFMC, Pune University and a Surgical Gastroenterology training from AIIMS, New Delhi. Dr Sinha has been teaching over 22 years in teaching hospitals.Dr Sinha was a lead Surgical Oncologist and has established the department of oncology in many institutions across India.
- Radiation Oncologist - Department of radiation oncology developed under the guidance of Dr. Gagan SainiDr. Gagan Saini is the associate Director Radiation Oncology, Max Institute of Cancer Care, Vaishali and Patparganj, New Delhi, India. He has an MBBS from K.E.M. Hospital, Bombay and MD (Radiotherapy) from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India.Dr Saini has a specialty training at the following various institutes: Asan Medical Center, Seoul, South Korea| Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois at Lausanne, Switzerland| Montefiore Cancer Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine| University clinic for Radiotherapy and Radio-Oncology, Paracelsus University, Salzburg, Austria.
AEGLE ONCO CARE CENTRE STAFF
- Clinical trials team This team of doctors, scientists and nurses will co-ordinate the clinical trials carried out in the Oncology Department. They collect information about patients, including how well they have tolerated treatments, and their long-term results.
- Dietician Dietician will provide dietary advice and if necessary, will arrange special diets or nutritional supplements. This is important, as patients’ condition and/or its treatment might affect their appetite which could impact on their health and well-being.
- Pharmacist Pharmacist will supply medicines for inpatients and outpatients and are also or preparation of chemotherapy treatments.
- Phlebotomist Patient blood samples, both on the wards and in outpatients’ clinics, will be taken by Phlebotomist (and also nurses and doctors).
- Physiotherapist Physiotherapist will work on the wards to maintain patients’ fitness and help them to overcome disability.
- Ward clerks Ward clerks will be responsible for supervising patient records on the wards and organising any follow-up appointments.
